Floral pyrography that look so alive you can almost smell them!
I create the use of color with the use of tonal values, or gradient tones. I hear comments from people who cannot believe that my flowers are burned on wood.
Who would have ever thought a wood burning of flowers could be so beautiful and appear so lifelike. My pyrography floral designs are one of my best selling pieces because they are so real, you can almost smell the fragrance of the flowers.
I have always been a nature lover, and especially love the fragrance and beauty of flowers. Moving back to the Pacific Northwest has provided me with a wonderful opportunity to not only create lovely gardens in the yard with wonderful fragrances, but also to find wonderful flowers to photograph and use as reference for burnings and drawings.
All of my floral pyrography pieces are done from flowers in my own garden or photos Alan or I have taken along the way! What fun to preserve the beauty in a wood burning that will last a life time.
Now living in New Mexico I have started my new garden. I am growing a variety of roses, iris, trumpet vine, rose of sharon and gourds (and yes, they have flowers too). I should have lots of new material for burning!

"Hummingbird 'n Bloom" This is a colorized version of a burning I did several years ago. This was done on a cheeseboard made by Alan. I made many changes to the original design and added just a hint-a color. I used a photo of one of the hummingbirds from our backyard bird sanctuary and put it together with some of the vines hanging over our wall. Although we don't have an old beat up fence, I used reference photos of old fences and hinges and put them together to create this old fence. We have built a paradise for birds in our yard complete with trumpet vines, butterfly bushes, rose of sharon, etc. SOLD |

"Bearded Beauties" A collection of Iris from my garden (three different colored iris were used for this burning, from left to right: apricot, burgundy, yellow, so the tonal values are different in each iris). This is a comment received by Lora Irish, a member of the Woodcarving Illustrated message board about this piece: "Oh, Nedra, that takes my breath away! I love the ruffles on the open iris but it's the buds that really catch my eye. Iris buds are extremely complicated forms with the ruffled petals curled around themselves and the paper edges of the bud leaf ... absolutely perfect rendition!!!!
